3 Reasons We’re So Glad We Went To BelongCon

You may remember a little while ago we interviewed Alice Reeves, founder of BelongCon – an event about community, acceptance and belonging. Last Tuesday we took time out and went along to the second event, a little unsure of what to expect and oh my, did we leave inspired.

Here’s 3 reasons why we’re so glad we went along:

The Speakers

From Brighton Digital Women’s Lana and Allegra bravely speaking about their mental health (and encouraging others to share, accept and own their mental health) to City Girl Network’s Pippa talking about girl power and sisterhood, Jo Ivens’ discussion on local charity Impetus’ work tackling loneliness and isolation and brutally honest (but empowering) mental health advocate Claudia Barnett’s talk on sharing without censorship or shame; we identified with them all, nodding along and feeling like YES. THIS IS ME TOO.

The People We Met

It wasn’t just the speakers who made us feel at home, but the people we met as well. At an event about belonging, we couldn’t have felt more like we fitted in – even though everyone was so different. From fellow writer Polly to Donna, founder and editor of Gozen Girls (an amazing book club for women) and musician-meets-trash-to-treasure-designer LuAmi, we’ve met girls who are inspiring and who we’re already looking forward to coffee dates with.

How We Felt Afterwards

In three words; inspired, enthused and happy to have met such lovely people. It definitely was far less lonely than a night in watching Netflix and scrolling through social media feeds. Will we go again? You bet’cha. And if you’re anything like us, you should too.
