Snuggly located in one of Brighton’s most iconic buildings, The Grand’s spa is a must for anyone in need of a little TLC, in the most luxurious of surroundings.
Opening in 2013, the spa remains one of the city’s best kept secrets: a calm oasis in the middle of the hustling hubbub.
A few weeks ago, our editor Shelley left the laptop in the office and headed off for a day of peace and tranquility at the spa at The Grand, and fell head over heels (to the point where she’s considering asking for membership for Christmas).
Here’s why she loved it so much:
It’s so peaceful
Being located on one of Brighton’s busiest roads, I was a little concerned that road noise would feature in my relaxing escape, but after twirling through the revolving door and entering the hotel, the tranquil ambience soothed me straightaway, so by time I’d headed downstairs to the spa (with its chill-out music, serene scenery and cosy candles), I was already relaxed and the busy, bustling world outside seemed so far away.
Fluffy dressing gowns, slippers & blankets = ultimate cosiness
OK, so every good day spa experience should always include dressing gowns, towels and slippers (that’s law, right?!) but this was the first spa I’d been to where you could help yourself to snuggly blankets. It made me feel right at home (who doesn’t love cosying up in a dressing gown, with a blanket?), without the everyday stresses – or guilt. This was my time!
The relaxation room is unbelievably Instagrammable
Need I say more? Divinely decorated in sumptuous hues of duck egg blues, the relaxation room really lived up to its name! With plush beds, thick carpets and magazines on-hand, the calming space was a perfect place to unwind. Add to this free refreshments (including a free glass of fizz!) and fruit and the aforementioned blankets and I could have happily stayed forever! Although I did tear myself away for some TLC treatment time and to relax in the sauna and steam room.
Gorgeous natural products
I’m pleased to say that the products used during my treatment and available to use around the spa (in the showers etc.) were just as decadent as the surroundings. The spa proudly uses lotions, oils and skin care from the Natural Spa Factory who stock boutique spas worldwide.
The products are created using botanically sourced ingredients derived by nature (herbs, plants and flowers) and are free from parabens, SLS, MI (Methylisothiazolinone) or MCI and they have not been tested on animals, making them perfect for sensitive skin (like mine) and also vegans.
Before my heavenly hot stone massage with the fabulous Nina, we discussed (and most importantly, smelt!) a range of oils to be used during my treatment. I loved them all so much that I think I’ll be buying some for Christmas pressies! The smell lasted on my skin for hours after.
It’s not as expensive as you might think
One of the things that surprised me was how reasonably priced the day was. While my day had been gifted, it’s standard policy that anyone booking a 50 minute treatment gets to enjoy the stunning facilities.
So for the cost of my £85 hot stone massage (which can cost a similar price in the city centre, for an hour), you get a lovely treatment AND use of the relaxation lounge, sauna and steam room, before and after too.
50 minute (and over) treatments range from £50-£100. Or if you just want to enjoy a couple of hours of me time during the week, you can book a two hour session for £19.50! That includes use of the facilities AND fizz! Bargain!
