When we decided to create Brighton Style Mag almost three years ago; one of our main aims was to highlight and shout about cool goings-on that completely captured Brighton’s creative, fun-loving spirit. The Homegrown Project is definitely one of those.
Created by Sunny Jennings, a stylist and event coordinator who’s worked in Sydney and London, the Homegrown Project hopes to bring together Brighton foodies with emerging chefs and artists – after all; don’t we all eat with our eyes?
“The aim is to collaborate with various local artists and food talent on a monthly basis, giving them the platform to showcase their work in a relaxed social environment,” Sunny explains.
“I’m hoping to pair different artists and foodie talent every month to offer a truly unique experience every time!”
The first in the series takes place next Saturday (25th March) and sees Young British Food Award 2016 finalists and Brighton-based vegan chefs, Planted take to the kitchen to cook up a five course rustic Italian feast using locally-sourced organic ingredients from farms in East Sussex , whilst Silvia K, a local ceramicist and recent Elle Design Award winner, will be showcasing a range of her contemporary terracotta ceramics, with each course being plated on several different wares.
It doesn’t stop there either – Brighton’s Pelicano Coffee Roastery, will be serving up their ‘Smokey Bird’ blend on the night and throwing in a bag of beans to be enjoyed at home.
A welcome glass of prosecco is also included in the ticket price (£34) an there’ll be an open bar all evening, offering local organic wines, craft beers and soft drinks.
Sunny hopes that these will be a monthly occurrence and is looking for other Brighton collaborators to get involved:
“I’m always on the look-out for new people to collaborate with, adding new elements to the events making it even more experiential.”
